2022 Holocaust Remembrance Day

Writer's picture: Kyle ParkKyle Park

Today marks the 77th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz, a day for reflection and remembrance of the six million Jews who perished during a period of calculated cruelty when human dignity was neglected for a racial ideology.

Just two weeks ago, we were reminded of the continued anti-Semitism in this country after the Colleyville synagogue hostage situation. And just this past year, swastikas were spray-painted on a synagogue in Canada, the Athens Holocaust Memorial was desecrated multiple times in Greece, inappropriate Holocaust comparisons surged as the pandemic introduced mask mandates and vaccine requirements, and unfortunately, the list goes on. The International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a reminder that each of us has the duty to fight the remnants of anti-semitism.

We must not merely prevent another genocide like the Holocaust but actively promote multiculturalism, diversity, and embrace differences that make humanity unique. Right now this seems to be sorely missing in the US and beyond, which makes this message all the more important for us to remember.

As we have done for the past two years, to commemorate the tragedy of the Holocaust, my friends and I have decided to play the theme song of Steven Spielberg’s film “Schindler’s List”––a song that walks us through the bitter past and reminds us of the strength each and every person has in standing up against hate. Please find the performance video attached below.

Thank you and let us not forget the lessons of history and the Holocaust.
