At the start of the week, Hwang Sun-woo reached the men's 200m freestyle of the Tokyo Olympics with an impressive time of 1:44.62 (new South Korean record) in the qualifying heats and 1:45.53 in the semi-finals. Hwang became the first South Korean swimmer to reach an Olympic final since four-time Olympic medalist Park Tae-hwan in 2012.
Hwang also put on an exceptional performance in the 100m freestyle event, clocking times of 47.97 (new South Korean record) and 47.56 (new Asian record) in the qualifying heats and semi-finals, respectively. Hwang's time of 47.56 was more than enough to put him through to the finals. The 100m freestyle finals event takes place on July 28th at 10:37 PM EST, so if you have some spare time today, make sure to tune in :)
