#WE REMEMBER

Writer's picture: Kyle ParkKyle Park

Today marks the 76th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz, a day for reflection and remembrance of the six million Jews who perished during a period of calculated cruelty when human dignity was neglected for a racial ideology.

Just this past year, Holocaust monuments were vandalized with swastikas in Ukraine, a Jewish man was beaten unconscious in Paris, another was stabbed in the streets of London, Jewish community centers in Russia and the US were set ablaze in an arson attack, and unfortunately, the list goes on. The International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a reminder that each of us has the duty to fight the remnants of anti-semitism that continue to plague our world today.

We must not merely prevent another genocide like the Holocaust but actively promote multiculturalism, diversity, and embrace differences that make humanity unique. Right now this seems to be sorely missing in the US and beyond, which makes this message all the more important for us to remember.

To commemorate the tragedy of the Holocaust, Sahas Chodhari, Andrew Noviello, and I have decided to play the theme song of Steven Spielberg’s film Schindler’s List––a song that walks us through the bitter past and reminds us of the strength each and every person has in standing up against hate. The performance video can be found below.

Thank you and let us not forget the lessons of history and the Holocaust.
