We often associate success with money, fame, and social status. Yet, one must remember that success is not concrete or easily defined. It is unique to each individual. Though I'm a high school student just starting life, from my personal experiences thus far, I've learned that the first step is deciding what success means to you––not what it means for your peers but for you. Success comes in many shapes and forms, and I wanted to share this quote from American philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson on success:
"To laugh often and much;
to win the respect
of the intelligent people
and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation
of honest critics
and to endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch,
or a redeemed social condition;
to know that even one life
has breathed easier
because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded."
Non Desistas Non Exieris. Have a great rest of your week :)
