On January 8th, 2020, Lawrenceville held a Varsity Track & Field meet against Hopewell Valley HS, West Windsor - Plainsboro High School North, and Hun School of Princeton. Winter track season's first 800M race concluded well with a time of 2:16:50, placing 8th place (19 total) overall in the meet. The 4X400M also ended successfully with a 57.13 split and finished first place in the second heat.
Last year in South Korea, my fastest time after the end of the spring outdoor season was a 2:19:21 in the 2018-19 Jeju Island Regionals. Within less than a year, I was able to shave off a solid three seconds and I strongly believe that the arduous workout sessions and training with the Big Red Track program has helped me develop both mentally and physically. I firmly feel as if this is a great starting point and foundation for the future meets to come in this season as well as the outdoor season in the spring term.
800M Race Split Breakdown:
- 200M Mark: 31
- 400M Mark: 1:04 (33)
- 600M Mark: 1:40 (36)
- 800M Mark: 2:16 (36)
The race splits shows that the first 400M was well-paced and I was able to maintain my speed by not dropping behind too much and not starting off to fast. When looking at the splits, the main problem seems to be the last 400M of race, which is ultimately the most crucial parts when running the 800M race. My second to last split was a 36 and my last 200M was also a 36. Although a 36 in the second to last 200M is not the best time I wanted, I could've still recovered by running a faster final 200M. Yet, I was unable to do so and maintained my 36 pace until the very end. Endurance has definitely improved since the beginning of the season in November but in order to improve these last 200M or 400M lengths, more endurance is needed and I know that I need to be patient and push myself everyday at the same time.
